The Chrome Hearts Story

Richard Stark built Chrome Hearts in a Los Angeles garage in 1988. He was making leather gear for touring rock bands. The Sex Pistols, Mötley Crüe and Guns N’ Roses were among his first clients. Furthermore, the gear was heavy, handcrafted and covered in gothic cross detailing drawn from medieval church iconography. Over the following decades, the Stark family expanded into jewelry, furniture, eyewear and apparel. Additionally, his wife Laurie Lynn and daughter Jesse Jo became central to the brand’s creative direction. The brand has remained an independent family business and a made-in-LA operation throughout.

The brand’s cultural rise came without advertising. Artists and cultural figures began wearing Chrome Hearts privately because they genuinely wanted to. Furthermore, Drake, Travis Scott, Rihanna, Kanye West and Post Malone all wear Chrome Hearts without commercial arrangements with the brand.
